The past will always find you.

Jos Archer was the girl with the perfect life; until the night it all came crashing down around her. Now, nine months later, she still hasn’t begun to pick up the pieces. Even transferring to a new college and living under the watchful eye of her older sister, Renee, isn’t enough to help her feel normal again.

And then she meets Dusty Sharp. For reasons Jos can’t begin to fathom, the newly reformed campus bad boy seems determined to draw her out of her shell. And if she’s not careful, his knowing green eyes and wicked smile will make her feel things she’s no longer sure she deserves.

But even as Dusty coaxes Jos to open up about the past, he’s hiding secrets of his own. Secrets about the night her old life fell apart. When the truth is finally revealed, will it bring them closer together;or tear them apart for good?

My Feelings!! πŸ™‚

So, I’m going to be honest here and say that I haven’t read the first book in this series. I just skipped to the second one, because the blurb sounded like a great one. I was so totally right πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ My Sweetest Escape was one of the cutest and most cutting novels I’ve read, because it touched on real issues like only a few book I’ve read have.

So, let’s start of with Joscelyn, aka the main gal character. She’s not in the best of places; she’s torn up about a loss she’s had, and once the perfect daughter/sister, she’s now reforming her life, and, in a way, living it the way she wants to. But, her ghosts still haunt her. Enter Dusty, aka the main guy character. BASICALLY, he’s one hot college man who’s got a lot on his shoulders, but is pretty darn funny, and is the only one to really break through to Jos. HEH. I really do love me some redemption/reform stories. They make my heart all warm and fuzzy. πŸ™‚ My Sweetest Escape was NO different!

Let’s take a minute to appreciate Dusty, his wicked sense of humor, and his wicked appearance.

“So I’m guessing some guy is going to drive us home now? Some guy named Dusty?”

Another hand descended on my shoulder, but it wasn’t Hannah this time.

“You would be correct, Hanna Gillepsie.”

“You know, one of these times you’re going to do that and I’m going to think you’re trying to kill me and I might kick you in the junk.”

“My junk would be honored,” he said.

^^ HAHAHAHAHA. See? He has a great sense of humor πŸ˜‰ *dances the happy dance*

And then, as always, there’s the supporting cast. There’s Jos’s overprotective sister: Renee, Renee’s boyfriend, Paul, and the roommate, Darah, Mase, Taylor, and Hunter, who are GREAT, btw. and they’re all couples. MORE LOVE IN THE HOUSE! But, my favorite supporting character was HANDS DOWN Hannah. She was this completely weird and uniqueΒ girl that Jos meets in one of her classes, but the good kind of weird; the endearing kind. Her struggles are due to the huge burn scar she has. Hannah was my absolute favorite for multiple reasons, but the top one was her ability to let go of all the self-consciousness. She really didn’t give a crap about what other people thought of her scar, and she went on living her life as if nothing had ever happened. Or at least she tried.

“Damn, you clean up good, girl,” Hannah said as she swept into the car, wearing a black shift dress. It was the first time I’d seen her arms bare and I saw that the burn traveled down her neck and over her arm, as well.

“It’ll be too dark, and most people will be too drunk to notice,” she said, turning her arm back and forth as if she were looking at it for the first time. “Plus, I love this dress and I’m not going to let anything stop me from wearing it.”

She was awesome.

YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN. I agree with Jos. This girl was all kinds of awesome! *grins*

OK, so now that we all know Hannah was ALMOST the best part of the book, let’s head on over to the actual couple πŸ™‚

Jos and Dusty were SO DARN PERFECT for each other. Yeah, they start out friend zoned, because of their pasts, and then it becomes something more. But, their story was believable, and it had me rooting for the two before they had even met! UGH so CUTE. I was proud of Dusty for waiting for Jos to come around, and of Jos for letting Dusty in and letting it all out in the open!! πŸ™‚ #HAPPYENDINGS

AND THE TWIST. I MEAN SERIOUSLY. I’m pretty good at guessing what the twists in a book ware going to be, but this one just completely caught me by surprise. I was basically like

OMG despicable me little girl

for a whole five minutes….. πŸ™‚

FIRST OF ALL, I didn’t really think the twist wasΒ gonna be so close to home, but the fact that it was really close to the main characters made it THAT MUCH better. Also, thank you, Chelsea, for writing such a romantic, real story. The other reason I loved the twist was because I was SO caught up in the rest of the book, and Dusty and Jos’ growing relationship, that I had NO idea what was coming or what to do, except freak out.

My Sweetest Escape was definitely a fun read!! There’s no mistaking the chemistry between Dusty and Jos, and even between all the roommates, but I think what made the book come alive were the issues that were DEALT with. Dusty and Jos had their own issues, but I LOVED that they were able to handle it on their own and talk it out. Hannah had some serious issues, but she held her own ALL THE TIME, and never paid attention to any of the inconsiderate jerks around her. She made sure to surround herself with the people she can trust and call friends.

The characters. The twist. The story. 4.5 well-deserved butterflies from meee! πŸ™‚

And, now I have to go try Skittles and M&Ms together πŸ˜‰
