AH! Best Kind of Broken was a pretty good read 😉 It had great characters and I really like how everything connected, and the background stories for both the main characters, but I think the one thing I felt was that it was a little too slow, and that the emotional conflicts were mostly internal.
Okay, I think I should start from the beginning. 🙂 So, Pixie is a nineteen year old girl who, due to mother issues, has come to the point where the dorms have closed for summer, and she is in need of a new place to stay. Luckily, her Aunt Ellen gives her that in the Willow Inn, and moves Pixie in. But was Pixie doesn’t know is that Levi, her FORMER best friend, lives right next to her, and she’s going to have to share a bathroom with him, because he’s the handyman at the inn.
Basically, theses two haven’t talked for a year. They’re scarred and emotionally hurting from the incident that happened the summer before, and they both have major guilt issues from what happened. And, when they see each other again, everything just comes rushing back, and they see the scars all over again, literally and metaphorically speaking. AND AND they’re both REALLY attracted to each other so that doesn’t really help their attempts to avoid each other.
For me, I think that was one of the aspects I didn’t appreciate. The guilt that both these two carried was warranted, I guess. But it went on for way too long. There were no real problems between the two. It was just personal. It was all in their heads, and they hadn’t figured out to get through it until way later. But what I did like was how it took the both of them to get over their guilt and their emotional scars. They both felt as though the other blamed each other, but in the end, it took both their efforts to bring each other back on their feet again.
I really did love Pixie and Levi as a couple. They were just sooo darn cute. A lot of the first part of the book is their bickering and arguing because of the hardships of sharing a bathroom, and getting back at each other with pranks, all while trying to avoid the sexual tension. It was pretty funny, and they both had me laughing and smiling quite a few times. I loved both their individual characters as well! Levi was, what can I say. HOT. GORGEOUS. 😉 but, seriously. He was a truly good person, and I loved how he never stopped caring for Pixie, and he really did fight for her.
“You are not my friend, Pixie. You are a piece of my heart and a part of who I want to be.”
HEHE. SO perfect!!! 😉 It was beautiful to watch him come into his own, get over the guilt, and fight for his present and future: Pixie. Speaking of, Pixie was FANTASTIC. FEISTY. BEAUIFUL. I loved her too. She didn’t take any of the crap the Levi was giving her. She called him on everything, and honestly, there were some points where I was like “get over it” but those were only few. BUT I still loved her, and she really was a down-to-earth, kind, beautiful person who, like Levi, got over her issues and made the effort to fight for she wanted.
AH! and the book was just better and better with the supporting character. Ok, basically, they were this:
“Zack looks at Jenna and slowly pulls off his sunglasses. “Why, hello, beautiful,” he says. “I’m Zack.” He shows off his dimples. “And you are…?”
“Not going to sleep with you,” Jenna quips, grinning right back at him.
His smile widens. “Well played.”
HEHE. Everyone in this book was just too good and good, together. And I loved being sucked into the story of their lived. It was a great ride 🙂 Basically:
My favorite quote?
“Winning is an effect of trying. You have to want it badly enough to go through pain, discipline, and failure to find it. To confront it. To claim it. But most of all, you have to fight for it. Everything else—anything else—is absolute surrender”
It really sums up what I think the story was trying to tell through Pixie and Levi’s story, and that message was a beautiful one. Overall, what I really enjoyed was that Levi and Pixie were basically two sides of the same coin, and it made me SO happy to watch them come together and overcome all the internal obstacles that came their way. 🙂
4 soaring butterflies from me 😉
