On the Rocks was a GREAT read I definitely liked this one. A LOT. 🙂 It had a HOT HOT HOT boy, a FEISTY girl, a pretty good, if not a little bit cliche plot, and an ever-great support system. All of which made a great novel 🙂
OK so, first off, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED HUNTER. HEHE. I mean, one look at that cover and I was grinning from ear to ear. Like seriously. * SWOON* AND then, you learn he’s a surfer. AND on top of that, he’s the cutest/hottest/most caring guy. I really did fall in love with him. I fell for him because of his selflessness for giving up his sport, and his dreams, to be there for his family and support his brother, and the decisions he made throughout the story, despite the obstacles. I LOVED his stubborness and insistence in trying to make it work between him and Gabby. And I absolutely adored his dedication to his family. I really connected with Hunter, which is a little weird for me, because I usually don’t connect with the male leads…I just fall for them. HARD. Obviously, I did that too, but I felt that Hunter was one of the male characters that I actually felt and understood 🙂
Another thing that I REALLY appreciated about On the Rocks was the dual POV *victory dance* 🙂 That might be part of the reason that I felt like I understood Hunter. I got to see all of him (and Gabby). From Gabby’s POV he was this smokin’, attractice, cocky yet sweet guy, and then you get to his POV and then BAM, all those endearing and hot thoughts smacked me into my place. Basically, there was no way I could resist loving Hunter.
Hunter Markham has the ability not just to hurt me. He’s a man that could destroy me.
PHEW. Come on. How can you resist a man like that? 😉
And then same went for Gabby. She was this really confident and badass girl who inevitably fell for her best friend’s brother. From Hunter’s POV, she was a tempting, confident, and beautiful woman who kept grabbing his attention, and keeping it. And then, we saw her determination and ethics from her POV. What I definitely LOVED and admired was her refusal to be looked down upon because of her gender. Her and Hunter’s relationship really begins when he offers the job of helping him better his bar on the beach, giving Gabby control over the construction of additions to the bar. But the thing with that was that she refused!! She refused at the beginning because she didn’t want the job if it was going to be out of pity. And even after she got the job, and was satisified that it was because Hunter actually like the plan, this happened:
Narrowing my eyes, I ask, “So… I really have the job? That’s set in stone, right?
He looks at me curiously. “Right.”
“Good. Then let me tell you… stop the flirting, jackass. I’m not interested.”
One word. BADASS. See why I loved her??? 🙂 ANYWAYS, she was seriously awesome.
AND THEN, there’s Hunter’s AMAAZEBALLS family.
First, there’s Casey. Casey was the total package. BFF. Sister. Shoulder to cry on. #1 supporter. Annoying & comedic relief. I totally loved her because she reminded me of my best friends. The no-nonsense, say-it-how-it-is kind of girl. HEHE she was goooood 🙂
Second, there’s Brady. He’s Hunter’s brother. Yeah, the one with the messy past. The brooding, mysterious, yet all-knowing one. I think I reallly like Brady because even though he just got through a rough past, he’s trying to get better. He’s there for his brother, and totally kicks his butt into shape when it comes to Gabby and relationship advice. I totally had my GO BRODY moments 😉 and oh shoot…the tension between him and Alyssa was GREAT. I can’t wait for their story 😀 😀
Oh, and have I mentioned his mom. Well, yeah. She was one pretty cool mom. I loved how she completely looked after Gabby as her own, and how she called out her kids on the crap they said or if they acted immature. It was so sweet and heartwarming. 🙂
So, as you can probably, I really liked a lot about this book. Yeah. It had its annoying moments, and I was like OMG at points, but I still really enjoyed it, and would definitely recommend it for anyone who loves a great family and happy ending. And of course, a smoking hot couple 😉
4 beautiful butterflies from me!!!! ♥
