Displaying Bio Photo.jpg

Blackness Takes Over is Norma Jeanne’s debut novel. What began as an homage to the home town of a homesick Midwestern girl, unfolded a story of love, danger, humor, and trust. She’s currently working on her untitled sophomore effort. We can’t wait to see what thrilling saga she leads us through next!

Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Norma Jeanne recently found herself relocating to the United Kingdom. Now living in Belfast, she took hold of the opportunity to kick the 9-5 job for a chance to become an author. The best part: working from her home office, she gets to spend more time with her cast of crazy characters (written and real).

In her free time Norma Jeanne is a voracious reader and consumes books as readily as meals. She is a people watcher by nature and uses her experiences in life, observed or otherwise, to build the worlds and characters that thrive in her books. A believer in the strength of the human spirit, Norma Jeanne writes the stories of people that persevere when all appears to be lost.

All her life, clever Aemi has been a slave in the Village of the Rocks, a place where the sea and sky meet. She’s heard the stories about the fabled People of the Sea, a people who possess unimaginable technology who live below the waves in the dark, secret places of the ocean. But she never dreamed those stories were true.

When a ship emerges from the ocean and men burn her village, Aemi is captured, and enslaved below the waves in Itlantis, a world filled with ancient cities of glass and metal, floating gardens, and wondrous devices that seem to work magic. To make matters worse, her village nemesis, the stuck-up mayor’s son Nol, was captured with her, and they are made servants in the same household beneath the sea.

Desperate to be free, Aemi plots her escape, even going so far as to work with Nol. But the sea holds more secrets than she realizes, and escape might not be as simple as leaving…

Author Interview

Describe Of Sea and Stone in six words.

Atlantis, steampunk, sunlight, seawater, secrets, romance.

What books have you read and loved lately?

I am almost finished with Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta, and it’s an absolute delight. Witty, immersive, and utterly compelling fantasy that reminds me very much of my beloved Megan Whalen Turner books.

Ice cream or cake?

Ice cream cake, of course! It’s the best of both worlds.

What authors have influenced your writing style the most?

I grew up on a pretty steady diet of mystery, actually, so I feel like classic mystery authors like Agatha Christie had a strong influence on me. When I was a teenager, I started reading fantasy by authors like Robin McKinley, Gail Carson Levine, and Sherwood Smith. The Blue Sword, Ella Enchanted, Crown Duel…I loved those books. I also had a huge love of historical fiction, so Ann Rinaldi, Elizabeth George Speare, and Eloise Jarvis McGraw influenced me a lot as well. As far as more recently-written books that I didn’t grow up reading, I continue to be an awe of fantasy authors Megan Whalen Turner (The Thief, The Queen of Attolia, etc.) and Melina Marchetta (Finnikin of the Rock), dystopian author Suzanne Collins (The Hunger Games), and contemporary young adult authors Lucy Christopher (Stolen) and John Green (A Fault in Our Stars).

If you had to pick a shoe that represented your writing style, what would it be?

Have you seen those canvas shoes where an artist has drawn original artwork on the front and sides and is selling them online? I think my books are like that—in some ways they feel familiar, but they have their own surprises and twists that make them unique.

Who has been the most supportive person in your writing career?

My husband. About two years into trying to get published, I was ready to give up on my stories and get a job doing something tremendously ill-suited for me, like being a secretary (I am a very bad secretary. Very disorganized). He convinced me to give it more time, and he is probably the sole reason I am published today. He is my first reader, my strongest encourager, and my most reliable critic.

Are you working on anything else currently?

Yes! I’m currently hard at work on the second book in the Secrets of Itlantis series, and I’m also working on a few secret projects on the side—one is a more traditional fantasy, another is a post-apocalyptic novel. I hope to have more details about them for my readers very soon.

Title: Seven Years of Bad Luck
Author: J.L. Mac
GenreAdult Contemporary Romance

When twenty-six year old Kathleen Cooper realizes that she forfeited her dreams and aspirations of becoming a lawyer after a brash decision to run off and marry the insanely charming Aidan Cooper, she decides to regain what she lost over the course of their seven-year relationship and start fresh.
With a renewed sense of hope and determination, she moves to a different city, lands a new job, and meets the handsome Benjamin Chase in a serendipitous way.
But even with all of these changes and hopes of gaining a new life, Kathleen is still not happy with the person she sees in the mirror staring back at her. She is an insomniac. She generally has bad luck in just about everything she attempts. She’s clumsy, and even if Prince Charming fell into her lap, she would likely push him in the opposite direction, for fear of getting hurt or worse, hurting someone else. This time she can’t blame any of these things on her bad luck or her destructive marriage. This time, it’s not her heart that’s in danger. This time, she has much more to lose and everything to gain.
Will she realize her mistakes in time to repair the damage?
Will she be able to reverse her shattered self-image and discover true happiness?
Will she ever find her way back to the person she was before seven years of bad luck?

Chill bumps spread like a fierce wildfire across the surface of my skin. I couldn’t tell if Ben noticed or not. I hoped that he didn’t. He leaned slightly to his left and deposited his coffee cup onto an end table. Then it was his turn to break our intense silence, and boy, he didn’t just break the silence, he shattered it into a million pieces along with my stupid ploy and formerly bolstered, but newly absent, courage. Apparently, once Ben spoke, my smart-mouthed inner Kat disappeared in a hurry. His voice came out low and rough; each syllable that rolled off his tongue seemed to stroke me internally, causing my stomach to flip and flutter wildly.
“Kathleen, am I the one to thank for these chill bumps, all over your skin or did something else do this for you?” As he spoke to me, he lifted his right hand and lightly brushed the backs of his long fingers down my right upper arm then swirled a light circle around my elbow and continued down the sensitive inner skin of my forearm, skating across my flesh with barely-there strokes from his nimble fingers.
I kept my eyes cast away from his. I seemed incapable of looking directly into his eyes. I felt as if looking straight into those glowing depths of vivid blue would cause me to be swallowed up whole and pulled beneath the surface to blissfully drown in him. The fierce sexual energy that permeated the air around Ben made it difficult to breathe, and it intimidated me.  I chose not to answer him. Or perhaps I couldn’t answer him.
“Kathleen, look at me.” His commanding tone and presence was hard to challenge even from a distance and far more grueling a task within such close quarters. I could smell him, I could feel the warmth from his body radiating outward, and I could clearly hear each breath he drew from the space between us and pulled down to fill his lungs. I felt a powerful crimson, heated blush roll through my veins. It coursed throughout my body leaving evidence of my arousal in its wake. My skin heated, and my neck and cheeks flushed into a hot red. I realized that I was helplessly adrift in a sea of desire and arousal and that battling the current would be useless. I could either embrace the journey along the formidable pull of the current, or I could fight in vain against Mother Nature, knowing that undoubtedly I would lose.
“Look at me. Answer my question.” I lifted my eyes from the floor, but still avoided his stare.
He extended his long index finger and placed the pad of it beneath my chin and encouraged my head to tilt back, forcing my eyes to meet his. The moment we locked eyes, my breathing halted , and I felt my stomach flip and flutter all over again with a heightened need that exceeded any feeling I had experienced before it, ever. I battled against myself for composure so that I could finally answer him. I had not the faintest idea of what I would say, but I knew I needed to say something. My eyes darted around a bit, and he released my jaw, giving me an opportunity to speak.
            Tit for tat, I thought.
“You never answered my own question, Mr. Chase.” I made a point to emphasize his name in hopes that sounding more like his employee would bring a halt to his request for an answer. I was hoping we could end this torturous little tango that had me tied up in knots.
No, Kat. You wish Ben had you tied up. He hasn’t done it yet.
And with that sarcastic little jab to my sex life (or lack thereof), the inner Kat sauntered back into my head as if she had merely stepped away for a moment, but didn’t go too far.
AND our picks for Kathleen and Ben????

Author: Janine Caldwell
Series: The Vortex Series #3
Genre: YA Romance/Science Fiction

The epic conclusion to The Vortex Series coming soon!

In an instant everything changes for seventeen-year-old Cassie Moore. Together she and her time-traveling boyfriend, Trent Astor, battle to survive their next impossible challenge. As they navigate through a third parallel world in which Cassie begged Trent to create for her, the two soon discover that no world can be made perfect.

And while they fight through their new circumstances, the universe may just have its own agenda for them both.

Meanwhile, it seems Trent and his sister, Lorelai, will never be safe from the greedy world and its hunger for Trent’s power. A new force threatens to destroy the anonymity Trent has fought for his entire life unless he can stop this new opposition first. But every choice has a consequence, and Trent is faced with the most difficult choice of his life.

Set in contemporary Northern California, The Vortex Series is a teen romance for those who also enjoy a bit of science fiction and fantasy. Told in two perspectives, we get an intimate view of both Cassie and Trent’s worlds. Family relationships, how they interconnect and drive our personalities, is the heart and soul of this YA time traveling novel.

With DEUCE, the 3rd and final book of The Vortex Series, Janine Caldwell combines fantasy and romance to create a compelling love story of integrity and sacrifice.

My Feelings

*SIGH* this amazing series filled with heart-stopping excitement, time-traveling, swoonworthy romance, and just amaazing character finally comes to an end 😦 BUT ITS OKAY. because I REALLY enjoyed the ending of this deserving series. Deuce was definitely NOT a disappointment. It held to my expectations, and made the series really come together. I really did love it 🙂

Deuce starts off right where Double Fault ended, and boy, was I glad that this was the case. It follows Trent and Cassie as well as their families through their journeys as time travelers, and more than that, relayed their journey as people discovering how to deal with unique and extraordinary, while living a normal life. It was a GREAT story. Now, there was some serious cliffhanger material in Double Fault, and Deuce put me right back onto the time traveling journey that the Vortex series is! Not that I’m complaining. 😉

So, Cassie and Trent. AWWWW 🙂 I loved them. I love their chemistry. I love their personalities. I love them as a couple. Even though they’re pretty young, they had a serious relationship, and sometimes that might be unbelievable or unrealistic. But in this case, it worked. It realllyyyy did. I enjoyed every second of their time together and I was rooting for them to make it through all the rough patches TOGETHER. 🙂 I mean, after three alternate lifetimes, they were just meant to be 😉

BUT goshdangit. This story was a pretty rough emotional rollercoaster too. There were all kinds of scenes. SAD ones, HAPPY ones, ones that made me ANGRY, and HELPLESS. At one point, I was just like PLEASE NO NO DONT LET THIS HAPPEN and..

Yeah. there were those moments too. But, all those moments in one story? Best package ever. Deuce was definitely a fun ride, and I can tell you that my heart broke for these two young time travelers, but they sewed it back together with their amazing strength and passion. I reealllyyy adored Trent and Cassie. And what can I say? Lorelai and Nate were my two big supporting characters in this one, and seriously, they were such a great support system. Lorelai was the ever-loving sister to not only Trent, but also Cassie. And that’s what I loved about her. She was loving to Cassie too, and proved that there was more to family than blood. I know. Cliche. But I mean it. I absolutely loved and admired Lorelai. #favorite! And Nate? Nate was just loving, accepting Nate. YAY for those two. SO CUTE together. HEHE.

SO, to read Deuce, be prepared to tear up a bit, laugh, fall in love all over again, and then gasp, A LOT. NO-SPOILER-ZONE here but, I will tell you that things happen; things that made me lose a little bit of my sanity. *sniffle* But anyways, there’s still a lot of happy moments!!! LOTS of Trent & Cassie moments *grins*

But, in all honesty, this was a wonderfully written book. I loved the plot line and I absolutely ADORED the characters, with all their flaws AND quirks. They made the book, and the series, and in my opinion, Deuce was a perfect ending to an engaging series. , in a nutshell, Deuce was a must-read time traveling romance. But it was so much more. It was my happy ending (for the most part) for some of Janine Caldwell’s most amazing characters 😉

Adam and Kathryn’s tantric love story continues once again told in his point of view…

When roguish playboy Adam Kingsley meets the stunning Tantra instructor Kathryn Delcour, he falls hard, becoming captivated by her strength and beauty. An intense sexual chemistry sizzles between them from their first shared glance to the soul cleansing Tantra session they experience together.

While Adam recovers from injuries after saving Kathryn’s life, she instructs him in the sensual practice of Tantra. He becomes her willing student as their tantric lovemaking brings Adam to sexual highs he never dreamed were possible. But Adam’s life takes an unexpected turn when newly exposed secrets surrounding his birth father force him to make a seemingly impossible choice.

Avenge those he loves and let everything he holds dear crumble around him, or allow the guilty to go free. With Kathryn by his side, Adam faces the fight of his life.

Adam’s Fall is the concluding book in the Touch of Tantra series.

“Kathryn’s mesmerized me with some kind of tantric magic. I’m bewitched without an ounce of fight left within me. She knows my dilemma, my hesitancy to surrender and loosen the grip I have on my past, and she’s won.” An excerpt from Adam’s Apple (Touch of Tantra #1) An erotic bestseller.

After I answer a few more emails, I take a quick shower, dress in clean clothes, and return to the bedroom. Kathryn is still sleeping, her face so peaceful and beautiful. I don’t want to wake her yet, but the dip of the bed as I sit down causes her to stir. Soon our time away from the world will be over, and we’ll have to face the morning’s events. The detectives are due here in about an hour, so it’s time for her to get up from the warmth of my bed.

I brush the hair from her face as her eyes flutter open. “Hey, beautiful.”

My words are met with a slow, sexy smile that unfurls my desire to take those sweet lips again, if only we had the time.

“How long have I been asleep?” She stretches on the bed and I bite my lip to hold back a groan as her perfect tits peek out from under the covers.

“A little over an hour, I think.” I touch the soft round side of her breast, as I’m unable to keep my fingers away. “But the detectives will be here soon, so you better get up.”

She pulls the covers over her head in a huff. When I yank them back down, I’m greeted with a mischievous smile and an exploring hand on my thigh. It appears the nap has reenergized Kathryn. Lucky me.

“I take cocky, rich boys like you and teach them how to make love to women until they’re barely able to mutter a word. Completely and utterly blissed. That’s really what separates the men from the boys, Mr. Kingsley. Sex as an art form versus f**king for a release.” – Kathryn.

Adam Kingsley reigns as the young prince of Manhattan. Everything he touches turns to gold, making him the envy of Wall Street. Guest Post

On Creating Characters for the Variant Series

When I sat down to write the story of Alexandra Parker and her strange, Variant-filled world, I realized fairly quickly that the novel would be just as much about Alex, as it would be about her newfound friends.

At first, Revival (the first novel in the series) had no plot. Not even a rough outline. There was no destination for the story and there were no real characters to speak of. All I knew about the book that Revival would eventually become was a single moment, pulled from a scene that takes place a few chapters into the tale—an image of a young girl running through a burning bookstore, a wall of flames licking at her back as she fled down the aisle with no way out.

I didn’t know who Alex was, back then… but I knew a lot about the guy she’d find waiting for her at the top of that black spiral staircase in the far corner of the store.

Declan O’Connell—the blonde-haired, blue-eyed jumper who was equal parts bad boy and smartass—was a character I’d been forming in my mind for a long, long time, but had yet to find a home for. Going into the project, Declan was the only character that I knew inside and out. Or at least, the only one I thought I knew.

As the story progressed, Declan’s character grew and matured in my mind, pieces of his backstory falling into place and revealing the source of his bad attitude and surly disposition. By the time I wrote the last page of Revival, I understood Declan in a way I never could have imagined during those opening chapters.

The truth is, I don’t create my characters so much as discover them as I work their stories onto the page.

All of the characters in the Variant series came to me in varying forms of completeness. A name here, a face there, a quirk or two to distinguish them, an important bit of backstory that forever changed their life or altered their personality… And often, I didn’t know what a characters would do or say in a situation until I’d put them in that situation and let the character speak for herself.

In the case of Declan’s younger sister Kenzie, I had a crystal clear image of her physical appearance before I even decided on her name. In fact, her name was chosen because it was the only name I could think of that fit the picture in my head.

But Kenzie’s personality?

Well, I think it’s fair to say that I was not expecting the girl who eventually showed up on the page. Kenzie was a pleasant surprise, but a surprise nonetheless. My early thoughts about the girl she might turn out to be ended up completely different from the caffeine-addicted teen that eventually worked her way into the story.

For me, that journey of discovery—of learning to understand my characters better as the story progresses—is one of my favorite things about writing. By allowing the characters to develop naturally, I’m just as surprised as the reader is by who and what they eventually turn out to be. It’s an enjoyable process and something I honestly can’t get enough of. The further into the Variant series I get, the better I get to know these characters—and the more I grow to love them.

Genre: YA Romance/Science Fiction

DOUBLE FAULT is the 2nd book in The Vortex Series where Cassie and Trent’s problems have only just begun. As they fight through the repercussions of creating a parallel world, other dangers are lurking. After years of running, Trent and his orphaned sister, Lorelai, sense the dangerous and power-hungry Dr. Fox is close to discovering their whereabouts.

While Cassie fears for Trent’s life, her tennis career hangs in the balance. Caught between her old and new life, she watches her world slowly crumble until it’s a tragic portrayal of all that she used to know. But worse yet, if her secret is revealed, she might lose what’s most dear to her heart.

My Feelings

Going into Double Fault, I was really excited because I mean, that ending from Rematch just made me so darn happy 🙂 🙂 and this second installment of the series did NOT disappoint!! I met a whole new Cassie, the same, smoldering Trent and I got a little more of Lorelai and the others!! Definitely enjoyed this.

So, Double Fault pretty much starts off where Rematch ended, and Trent and Cassie are a happy couple, THANK GOD! 😉 But, just because they’re in this parallel universe that fixed the previous psychological problems Cassie was having doesn’t mean that everything’s perfect. Trent and Lorelai are still being following by PIs and hunted down for Trent’s special abilities, and then there’s the love triangle, or wannabe love triangle. (hint hint: Jeff) And then that twist in the middle of book? GREAT. But then the twist at the end? AMAZING. hehe. I absolutely loved how the book kept me on edge, and rooting for Trent and Cassie, and their survival through the entire novel.

The biggest change in this book from Rematch, had to be Cassie. In Rematch, she’s the shy girl filled with self-confidence issues due to the aftermath of her getting shot at a tennis match. In Rematch, her vulnerability and shyness really bled through the pages, and I felt it, and made me adore and hate her at times. 😉 But in Double Fault, it’s a whole different ball game! Now, Cassie had totally different issues. She’s a lot more confident in herself, and I loved that too!!! I didn’t expect to, just because I loved old Cassie so much, but I really did like the new Cassie, and to enhance her story, I loved her defiance and her determination to realize her OWN dreams, and make her own choices, instead of following her dad. I really admired her in this one, just like I did in Rematch, but for completely different reasons 🙂

AND TRENT? He’s still the lovely, swoonworthy boy that I fell for in Rematch. In this one, he’s a little more overbearing and protective, though, because of the whole love-triangle-with-Jeff thing. But, he still loves Cassie as much as he did in the other parallel universe, and he was still make me go “awwwwww” a LOT 😉 so no worries there. There’s still a whole lot of chemistry and love between those two! 🙂 YAY!

I loved that I got a reaaally good feel for both of them, though. There was a dual POV (which could be a little confusing at times, but it was fine most of the book) so I got my Trent thoughts *grins* and got my confident Cassie’s thoughts about everything. It was really cool. And because of this, I got a better feel for the supporting characters too, like Lorelai, Jeff, and of course, Nate. I loved Lorelai and Nate’s relationship AND I really enjoyed watching the brother-sister bond between Trent and Lorelai evolve. CUTE COUPLE DUO 🙂

YAYAYAY christina

I know, I know!

BUT DANG. THOSE TWISTS THO. I love when books surprise, and the first few twists in the book weren’t that surprising. I mean, I enjoyed them, but in the back of my head, I was kind of expecting them. They really made the book interesting, and the repercussions of them made the book that much more engaging, BUT THAT ENDING. OMG.

I was sooooo ready for Deuce right then and right there. best. idea.ever. Thanks for that, Janine Caldwell 😉

To this one, 4 LOVELY butterflies!!!
